True Rep Auditions

True Repertory Theatre is proud to announce auditions for the world premiere of "Ellen's Boys," written by True Rep resident actor James Sullivan.

Set against the tumultuous backdrop of Dorchester, MA circa 1965, "Ellen's Boys" tells the story of Irish Catholic widow Ellen Flaherty and her three adult sons. Paul is a priest at St Mark's and embroiled in a scandal. Gil works as a shoe store clerk and discovering his sexuality. And Michael, who is in a loving relationship with his girlfriend Tina, is sent to Vietnam. Ellen's devoted daughter, Kathleen is juggling her mother while trying to keep her own husband and sons happy. Ellen's sister, Bridgie is emerging from widowhood to a new life. The play's central theme concerns Ellen's need to control her family and the forced realization that she must let go.

NATHAN STEIN: 30s. Of Jewish descent. Openly gay, mischievous, spoiled and rich. Befriended by Gil (must be comfortable with a stage kiss with another male actor).

PATRICK WALSH: Around age 8. He is a loving and obedient boy. Is befriended by Father John (Content: Patrick's story is one of molestation and murder. It is important to note that these actions DO NOT take place on stage)

MICHAEL FLAHERTY: 20s to early 30s. Ellen's youngest son. He's a jock and enlisted in the army. He is a man of many emotions and incredibly protective of his family and shows that protection with his fists.
